How it plays out

The scene is set. Olivia and Paxton are staying the night at the IL's. Sawyer is almost asleep. Jody has the look of longing in his eyes. We have plans...

...And the phone rings. My dad and brother have come down for a weekend fishing trip at the Little Red River. The rear end of their Blazer has gone out and they are stranded without a vehicle or a way to get their boat to the cabin. Jody has to go rescue them with his dad's truck. I have to laugh. Never make plans in this family.

Murphy's Lesser Known Laws

1. Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people "appear" bright until you hear them speak.

2. Change is inevitable-- except from a vending machine.

3. Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't.

4. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

5. The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability that you'll get it wrong.

6. If you lined up all the cars in the world end to end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them, on a hill, in the fog.

7. The things that come to those who wait will be the scraggly junk left by those who got there first.

8. The shin bone is a device for finding furniture in a dark room.

9. A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.

10. When going to court, you are putting yourself in the hands of twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

RBS

I saw a commercial for Restless Leg Syndrome. I had to laugh. I don't have RLS. I have RBS - Restless Baby Syndrome. I don't know if it's because he doesn't feel good, if he is having a growth spurt, or if this is just a phase, but Sawyer does not want to sleep, and he doesn't want to be put down. My arms are tired from holding him, my neck is sore from sleeping funny and my house needs a good scrubbing. Being a mommy is kicking my butt right now.

And you know the funny thing? Jody has been so paranoid about me getting pregnant again. Having a third kid is the best birth control we could ever have. We can barely find time to have an adult conversation, much less have sex.

Honor roll

Sawyer is now on the roll! He rolled over in bed this morning, and I wondered if it was for real. So I put him in his crib and he rolled over two more times. My baby is growing up too fast!

Is this day over yet?

Can you tell what kind of day I had today?

Sawyer has been sick. I had to drop off clothes for a consignment sale today at 4 o'clock. I had planned on pricing everything last night after Sawyer went to sleep. Instead I ended up taking Sawyer to an Uri-Care and getting home late. So today I had to work like crazy to get everything priced and ready to go. Of course Sawyer wanted to be held since he didn't feel good. He finally took a nap so I was able to get almost everything done.

In the meantime, the kids completely detroyed the house - food everywhere, toys everywhere, clothes everywhere. Is this what my house would look like if I didn't pick up constantly throughout the day? Was it I who raised these animals?

Needless to say, the kids and I didn't get along very well today as evidenced in the picture Olivia drew for me. I was able to turn it into a teachable moment. You spell mom m-o-m not m-a-m although Olivia had to point out that I am a ma'am too. [sigh]

Let's just say, I'm glad this day is over. Here's hoping tomorrow is better.

We got our yearly dose of nicotine and our taxes done this evening. The highlight was watching our accountant’s dog humping a pillow. Seriously, the dog would hump the pillow until it was worn out, lie down and rest for a few minutes and then get up and start humping the pillow again. This went on the entire time we were in her office. It was freaking hilarious!

We are getting back a fat return again. Jody has dreams of putting it in the bank, and I have dreams of getting rock for our road, fixing his car and some other minor things. Jody and I agree that we wouldn’t get along as well if we actually had money. He would want to save every penny and I would want to do a little retail therapy now and then.
************************************************************
Speaking of retail therapy, I found Boggle Jr. on sale for $5 at Wal-Mart. Olivia has been watching me play Scramble and repeatedly asks to play. Now she can play too. I figure it will be a nice supplement for her lessons. And of course Paxton is excited to play too.
************************************************************
The flu is running rampant around these parts. I heard that the hospital and ER were so crowded with flu patients that people were lined up in the halls with IVs. It makes me not want to go anywhere or take the kids anywhere. I feel guilty for not getting them the flu shot (they’ve gotten it every other year), but I’ve heard that it doesn’t cover the strains going around. My one consolation is that at least Olivia isn’t in school. I’m sure that greatly decreases our exposure. Olivia is invited to a birthday party tomorrow and Jody suggested that she not go just because of everything going around. Does that make us over-protective parents?
